Canyon Pintado National Historic District
Just east of town, you will find Canyon Pintado. The canyon draws thousands of tourists every year seeking a glimpse at the 16 designated rock art sites in the area. The canyon is comprised of work by the Fremont Culture and the Shoshone and Ute Indians. Experts estimate the art dates from 1200 to 1881 A.D.
Dinosaur National Monument
Rangely also serves as a great home base for travels into Dinosaur National Monument. Rangely is conveniently located 20 miles from the Canyon Area Visitor Center, 60 miles from Echo Park, and 55 miles from the Carnegie Dinosaur Quarry in Utah. The monument is home to one of the world’s largest discoveries of Jurassic dinosaur fossils.
