Our Top 10 Favorite Activities at Dinosaur National Monument

One of the most unique sights in all of Utah is the Wall of Bones at Dinosaur National Monument. To view this geologic wonder, rent a car from Allsave Car Rental Utah, and head east to the park’s entrance. From there, explore the park on foot, car, or raft. While there are countless ways to spend your time in Dinosaur, here is a list of our 10 favorite activities.

Top 10 Favorite Activites at Dinosaur National Monument

1. Visit the Quarry Exhibit Hall

After renting your car in Vernal, head to the Quarry Exhibit Hall to see the most spectacular aggregation of dinosaur bones in the world. The Wall of Bones contains 1,500 visible fossils for visitors to see and touch! To learn more about the monument, attend a ranger talk at the Quarry Exhibit Hall – this will prepare you for your journey through the monument!

2. Take a Drive

There are several scenic byways that offer breathtaking views of the park. The Tilted Rocks Drive stretches 10 miles past the Quarry Visitor Center. This route provides views of striped rock faces, winding rivers, and ancient petroglyphs. Alternatively, Harpers Corner Road is a longer drive and provides sweeping views of the region’s rivers and canyons.

3. Rafting

The Yampa and Green Rivers flow through the monument and converge at Steamboat Rock. Take a guided, multi-day tour down either of these rivers to view the heart of the region. Adrenaline junkies will enjoy the faster pace of the Yampa River, while novices will find respite in the Green River.

4. Hiking

After rafting through the depths of the canyons, lace up your boots to ascend the region’s peaks. Hikers of all ages and abilities will find a trail that suits their needs. The Fossil Discovery, Desert Voices, and Sound of Silence Trails range from easy to difficult.

5. Visit a Historic Homestead

Chances are, you’re going to get hungry while visiting the monument. Stock up on groceries in Vernal to enjoy a picnic at a historic site at the end of Cub Creek Road. Visitors can view a century-old frontier ranch, including a hand-built cabin and outbuildings.
